macOS 10.12 Issues

**** UPDATE Dec 14   macOS 10.12.2 fixes this bug for older versions of MacPOS DO NOT upgrade to MacOS Sierra 10.12  We recommend that you DO NOT update your Mac to Apple's latest OS update macOS 10.12. We have identified an issue with the OS where it is crashing when performing a longstanding Font Panel access function.  This issue did not surface during our testing with pre-release versions of macOS 10.12 Apple introduced  this bug in the GM release of OS Sierra.  This bug affects MacPOS's layout editor when accessing the FontPanel and as a result of the bug, MacPOS crashes. Apple is aware of this bug and confirmed our bug submission is a duplicate and known issue. We hope they fix it soon. More testing is needed with compatibility with touchscreen monitors from ELO as well. If you have installed macOS Sierra and are encountering an issue with MacPOS software, please contact us for a temporary work around.  Unfortunately this work arou...

Liability Shift for fraudulent credit cards

Today marks the start of the switch of the liability for fraudulent credit card transactions to the merchant accepting the card. Some businesses are panicked and falling victim to the many companies offering merchant processing solutions for EMV causing them to think about switching. The first question you must ask yourself, how many fraudulent transactions have you processed in the last year?  If you're using Mercury Payments, I can bet it's none.  The reason is the technology employed in the card readers that detects real cards from the fraudulent ones. You must consider that while processing credit cards with Mercury, the card readers employ 3DES encryption and it would require a supercomputer running thousands of years to crack it to obtain the card information. We are working with Mercury to certify MacPOS on their EMV platform for Point of Sale apps. This service comes online in January 2016 and will include ApplePay and the many other forms of electronic payment...

MacPOS and OS X 10.11

MacPOS v2013 - 2016 is compatible with OS X 10.7 thru 10.11 El Capitan. We have found only one feature that does not work and that is the Print to eMail receipt function.  You can still email a PDF from the Print dialog, but our AppleScript function to keep Mail app in the background while performing this function is failing.  A fix will be available soon. We recommend that you wait to upgrade your Mac to El Capitan, not because of any issues with MacPOS but it is always a good idea to wait for 10.11.1 on production Macs.  One example is a favorite utility app MenuMeters that shows network, memory and cpu resources in the menu bar no longer functions.  Another screen recording app, Snapz Pro X had to be updated to work in OS X 10.11. Overall,  El Capitan is a solid update.

El Capitan OS X 10.11 Compatibility

MacPOS and OS X 10.11 Thank you Apple ! We don't recommend that you rush out and get the El Capitan beta and use it everyday but the good news is everything works.  MacPOS v2014 is compatible with OS X 10.5 -  10.11.  We will be dropping support for 10.5 and 10.6 in v2015 when it's released.  We are still putting the final touches on the new v2015 and have been waiting for this OS X release to ensure MacPOS will work going forward.
